When we talk about spirituality today we were misunderstood as self righteous people. As today is a time when there is significant moral degradation. Sin has been legalized every now and then. Compromising with moral laws has been a common practice. Value system has been changed considerably. Now we live in a world where bribe is called ‘processing fee’ instead of an illegal or wrong practice. Today’s people do not even realize that it is wrong. It is because we have taken care of our mental being and physical being and we never are aware of our spirit. Even we do not know whether present generation even belief that they have a spirit in them also. And now in the onset of a changing value system we youth find it very difficult to cope up between present trend of the world with spiritual or moral demand in life.
There is a God & we need Him: “Fool says in his heart, ‘there’s no God…’’ But how can a beautiful creation have no Creator? Even logically if we think we will get to know the presence of a working God in this whole universe.
Have we ever asked ourselves that why we need to be spiritual? What is the necessity? What is the logic behind it? Let’s discuss it briefly today.
We all know that our whole being consists of a mind, a body and a spirit. We cannot abandon any one aspect at the cost of the other. All the aspects of our total being are equally important. Unfortunately or being unaware of it, these days we give more stress to our body and mind but we neglect our spirit. We think of wearing good clothes on to look good and beautiful We should always remember that our Mind is ‘Self Conscious’, our Body is ‘World Conscious’ and our Spirit is ‘God Conscious’.
As our spirit is God conscious and when we neglect that aspect in our life then that particular area seems blank and void in our life. We miss someone whether we feel it or not. We feel disturbed whether we realize it or not. We feel frustrated whether we recognize the problem or not. We try to give it a name as an excuse and that excuse is loneliness. Our spirit longs to have communion with the Creator. It longs to be in His presence and when we don't allow that we feel lonely and frustrated.
Therefore, the very character of our spirit makes us feel the need of God in our lives. Yes, we need Him.
We are spiritual being & we have an eternity to live: Being a spiritual being we should always remember that when our body leaves us or when we die our spirit moves around and lives forever.
Have we ever thought that where my spirit will move around or go forever? Sometimes apart from our studies or career or work we should think of all these. These thoughts are very important in our life. These are most vital questions in our life which we can’t avoid as our body lives for maximum 100 years in today’s world, but what about the life after death? Are we not inquisitive about all these? Are we not curious about all these? Are we not scared about all these? Are we not human anymore? Have we lost our nature of getting inquisitive and curious or are we diverted somewhere else to the matters of less importance?
We are born in sin & we need a saviour to save us from sin: When there was a discussion going on in a training programme about all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and we are born in sin, I asked the faculty how does a new born baby commit sin when it is innocent? In reply the faculty said, when a baby is hungry and the mother delays to feed it, it cries loudly at the top of its voice and bites her mother’s nipple when she finally tries to feed it. Nobody can claim or demand that he/she is sinless. We all are sinful in our nature, in our actions, in our thoughts even. As we are sinful and fallen short from God’s standard, we need a saviour to save us from the clutches of sin.
According to God’s justice, righteousness and holiness when we commit sin we come under the judgment of God and our punishment is eternal death or hell. But according to God’s love we are restored by His saving plan through Jesus Christ. He came as a man and took the death penalty on behalf of us. He was 100% man yet he was sinless and was perfect to be a saviour.
The condition is if we believe in Him that He has died for our sins and rose again from the dead then we are saved. This is an individual conviction. The Bible, which is God’s spirit inspired word, says so. A saved individual is called a believer in Christ.
We have to hold unto our salvation till the final redemption: A believer’s life on this earth is not easy. He/she has to hold unto his/her faith in this sinful and difficult world till the end of his/her life or His second coming. A believer may face persecution for sake of his/her faith. The Spirit and the word of God give him/her strength to lead a victorious life on this earth.
As a believer are we ready to follow His word diligently? There four pillars that strengthen and hold our spiritual house together till our last evening. Those are as follows:
- Regular study of God’s word (The Bible): It will teach us who we were previously and what we became in Christ Jesus. It teaches how lead a believer’s and disciple’s life. It will also help us to build a strong relationship with our father God. It corrects and rectifies our sins.
- Communicating God through Prayer: We pray to glorify His name for who He is. We express our gratitude through our prayer. Prayer also relieves our tension when we rely on God, the supreme controller of the whole universe. God loves to hear us every moment. He feels important in our lives through our prayers.
- Fellowshipping with fellow believers: when we have a close communion with our fellow believers we get edified, admonished, rectified, encouraged, and get strength.
- Witnessing God in our life and sharing our faith daily: Witnessing is our responsibility and we were called by God for that as believers. We can’t escape from it.
Finally, for our encouragement God promises in His word that “He will never leave us and never forsake us till the end of this earth.”
Stay blessed!

As Americans we sometimes allow ourselves to be silenced. The First Amendment gives us '"Freedom of Religion"...NOT "Freedom from Religion". Many sins have been legalized, however, we still have the right to 'love our neighbor', which changes many hearts.
A wise friend once told me: "There are no new sins, just a new group of people doing them"
As Christians we occasionally have to change how we witness, and sometimes it is just by being a "good example", and that brings to mind what Jesus said "because they hate me, they will hate you", and some in the world do hate us, "and many don't even know why". That's why Jesus said on the cross "Father forgive them, for they know NOT what they do"...we watch that hatred play out all the time in the public arena, where they hate Christians (especially christian politicians), and rail against them...without any other logical reason.
