There is news of a woman beaten to death as people thought she was a witch. There is news of babies being thrown from a height as their parents believe that their families will be blessed by this custom. There are goat, cow sacrifices to many gods and goddesses. There are many more kinds of evil superstitions being observed in India, which are really shameful to us as Indians.
There is illiteracy, yet India is the number two English speaking country in the world after US being the number one in the category.
India is the 2nd largest populated country and 7th largest country geographically in the world. It has the population of around 1.2 billion people, with more than 25 languages spoken. It has many different cultures, religions and festivals etc. There are many diversities in the country. But the unity I see among the Indians in the diversities is just amazing.
There are many things that happen regularly that I don’t like yet I love my country for one single reason. The reason is its people and their brotherly hood. When you are in trouble the people will come out to help. They can burn buses, break cars and official buildings for you. Though it doesn’t happen in all the cases but the people of India feel for their own country men.
The unity that we can witness during the cricket matches is just amazing. People on the roads, in the shops, in the clubs and in houses watch cricket together and cheer for their country together. There are rich and poor, Hindu and Muslims, old and young all get together to watch it live and cheer. They share the tears of losing and blast fire crackers for the victories. When India won the world cup few months ago, the people of India celebrated the win for next 3/4 days. That’s India.
There were many heroics of queens and kings in the past who fought the battles against cruel Britishers. Even now when there was a bomb blast in Mumbai and many were dead (Incident of 26/11). The whole of India came together and raised their voice against terrorism and Pakistan, Afghanistan etc.
This is a land of people like Mahatma Gandhi, Mangal Pandey, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Raja Ram Mohan Rai, Chattrapati Shivaji, Sarojini Naidu, Rabindra Nath Tagore and many more who have made India proud.
I am proud to be an Indian. I am proud of my country which has rich value system, brotherly feelings, and sacrifices for each other. I pray and hope that my country will be freed from all kinds of evil that has brought a bad name to it and be unite always for better and for the best of causes.
