It was a chilling December month. I was feeling quite cold with mild fever. Winter time and above that I had fever. I was shivering. My wife covered me with a blanket and gave me a hot water bag inside the blanket. After some time I was feeling much better. The warmth of the blanket, hot water bag & my wife’s love comforted me and made me warm.
There are people in this world today who have lost their father or mother or loved ones and they are grieving for months as they don’t have anybody else on this earth to be called as their own. They are alone, spending their life in solitude. Are we ready to give them our time as a friend?
There are people sleeping in the foot paths with just on a thin cotton towel and covering a thin bed sheet in this winter. Are we ready to give them a blanket? It may be an old piece and taking extra place at our homes.
When the fire broke out in one of the biggest market in India, ‘Burrabazar,’ Kolkata, many business people lost their wealth. Lost their businesses altogether. Many were heart broken and traumatized. Are we ready to go and help them?
A child failed in exams, sports, other curriculum of life. Are we ready to encourage him or her as an elder brother, sister or parents?
Sometimes I think when my wife needs little warmth when she was tired or disappointed, am I giving her little warmth that she requires?
So many times these thoughts have disturbed me. God has in fact called us to give others warmth in the forms of little help, encouragement, a blanket, a shawl, a saree (an Indian cloth, usually worn by wrapping it around the body), even little water in a small pot. Why we are so selfish and self sufficient when the world around us is begging today, “may I have your attention, please?" “May I have your little warmth, please?" How prepared are we to start distributing warmth, today?
In conclusion I would quote Paul’s writing in 1 Cor. 13:1-3,
“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing."
“Am I a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal to the world today?" Let’s each one of us ask this question ourselves personally.
Stay Blessed!

You made me want to cry reading this. How many times have we all walked by someone who was homeless or looked like they lost their best friend and did nothing to make their day a little better. You have a good heart. We all have good hearts. God created everything good.
It makes me cry and curse also. Because once I ordered some snacks and holding it. One slum boy came and asked the shop owner one, I thought of telling the shop keeper to give him and I would pay for that, but before I do anything the owner drove him out, and I could not do anything. I should have simply handed over mine then ordered one more for myself.
I literally was angry on my dumbness. This is one instance but there are many we only regret. I call is to ''stop regretting and start implementing.''
Thanks for that wonderful comment.
It is an appropriate use of the selected scripture. The need to be loved is linked to our need to express love. The flow, the giving and receiving of compassion, and gentleness is an essential part of being human. I remember teaching a class in Church and we were reading this very same passage. I used the word tolerance, saying we needed to be more tolerant of others even when we have disagreements and differences. This girl in the class got angry saying, No, No, No, the passage never uses the word tolerant. The passage says love. We are to love. Tolerant is not enough. Tolerant will never move us to compassion, to reaching out and touching the lives hungry to be touched. Thanks you so much for that wonderful comment...I was delighted to see your comment...
